The Double Star is going well, assembling the “A” panels to form the tunnel for the center spar was a bit of a challenge. When I build the second half of the kite I am sure I will do a better job. Read the rest of this entry »

A really hot kite came up on the kitebuilder.com forums back in March of 2004. The kite is called the double star built by Ferruh Baysu. The kite is about 10 feet across and about 5 feet tall. Read the rest of this entry »
The wind was finally here today and I was able to fly the Trinity YFO. The wind speed was about 30 km/h + gusts so I was a little worried. Read the rest of this entry »
Last night my wife and I tried to get some pictures of the kite in flight. It was after midnight, cold and there was zero wind.
However we managed to get some pretty cool pictures of the new kite. Read the rest of this entry »
after reading the posts about Lee Sedgwick’s round yfo style kite on the kitebuilder.com forums I decided to build one. this was a cool kite, and was super simple to build. While experimenting with bridles one day it struck me that I could make a pretty cool Read the rest of this entry »
I went out at lunch today with my new YFO/UFO/Airyo-ish kite and had a go at flying it as a quad. The kite performed much better than I expected and there are lot’s of areas to tweak. I attached the with 90 degrees between each tow point. ( 11 and 2, 5 and 8 on the face of a clock). There wasn’t much wind but it performed very well.. Turning is a little weird; the kite is round which makes it difficult to tell which end is up :). Read the rest of this entry »
Rich Durant from Oregon posted a topic on the kitebuilder.com forums about Lee Sedgwick’s latest creation, the YFO(correction Lee emailed me to say that the new kite is called the UFO - Ultimate Fun Object). The UFO took home the most innovative award at the AKA Convention in Seaside Oregon this year. The disc shaped kite/toy is about 46″ in diameter and can be flown in quad-line, single line and no-wind single line configurations. Read the rest of this entry »
Finsished “Le Virus” number 2 this evening… Test flight tomorrow
:)
I learn something every time I build a kite. This time I used a Mil spec grade gross grain on the trailing edge. The gross grain is 100% nylon and is very strong. It holds a crease long enough to feed it through my bias binder and creates a nice finish. I will make the dacron reinforcements at the standoff positions thicker, as I didn’t leave quite enough room for the standoff-to-sail connector. The kite has the frame from my green “Le Virus” and I will eventually frame it in skyshark P200’s and 5pt tapers.
Here is a photo of the completed kite…
After building my first “Le Virus”, and being so pleased with the result, I have started to turn the second sail into a kite.
I made a few changes from the last kite I built… Read the rest of this entry »
