Admittedly, we were going around 35 mph, but nowhere near the speed that is suggested. When you get on a kite tube, it's not a matter of if you will get hurt, it's when. The people that get seriously injured and report it aren't trying to ruin people's fun, they're trying to save their lives. I am shocked by the number of people (idiots) that continue to think that they somehow know better than everyone else and can use this product safely. I have instructed waterskiing and wakeboarding and have been slalom skiing/wakeboarding/barefooting for 17 years without any serious injuries. I spent three hours on the kite tube and ended up in the hospital. Coincidence? I'm thinking no. We weren't going too fast; however, a gust of wind took him up, then the kite spun hard to the right and slung him off at about 35 feet. Had he not been wearing a neoprene vest, his injuries would have certainly been even worse. This product is deadly. We've been lake and water toy enthusiasts for 20+ years...even had a parasail. Never had any accidents. We bought the kite tube in May and rode it Memorial Weekend. First ride out July 4th weekend, my son was injured. He spent nearly a week in the hospital, including several days in ICU because of the inability to maintain a sufficient oxygen level. This product should definitely be removed from the market and should be under scrutiny. It should have been tested under every possible condition before it was put on the shelves. The boat speed is far to high. My family and friends have really enjoyed kite tubing this summer. The key is keeping boat speed at maximum 25 mph. Also only a qualified driver , utilizing a rear view mirror and a dedicated spotter to watch and warm the driver if the rider needs less speed. Its unfortunate the product is now banned. Why should this be any different? recommond speed for an adult is 20mph not to exceed 30mph ... had a ton of fun on mine without any problems.
